NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Andrew Mulvey went 6.2 innings and allowed just two runs, Anthony Colon went 2-for-3 with one RBI and Mike Smith and Angel Zapata finished with one hit and one RBI apiece as the City College of New York downed the John Jay College Bloodhounds, 3-2, in game one at Father John Blanco Field at Salesian High School on Saturday afternoon before falling 10-5 in game two.

Colon's RBI double tied the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning while Mulvey (2-6) earned his second win of the season. Brian Collado recorded the final out to register his first career save as a Beaver. Braylin Perez (1-8) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs and striking out 11 in 6.0 innings.

Game One

A walk to Eric Quatrone brought up Smith in the opening frame and the junior catcher did not disappoint as he ripped a double off of the wall out in center field to plate Quatrone from first base and give CCNY a 1-0 lead.

John Jay put up two runs on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning after Mulvey dominated in the opening frames to take a 2-1 lead. However, CCNY answered back and tied the contest at 2-2 after Colon's RBI double in the bottom of the fourth. Threatening to take a lead, CCNY could not capitalize as the Beavers stranded the bases loaded to end the inning.

Mulvey buckled down and forced the Bloodhounds to leave the bases loaded in the top of the fifth and enter the bottom half of the inning with the game tied at 2.

Tavarez led off City College's fifth inning with a hit by pitch and advanced to third on excellent base running and a bunt by Quatrone. With Zapata at the plate, a bad bounce allowed the ball to go over the shortstops head and into center field to CCNY a 3-2 lead.

Mulvey registered two outs in the seventh and Collado entered to shut the door, forcing a fly out to center field to end the contest with a runner 90 feet away. The win marked the second conference victory for the Beavers and forced a winner-take-all game two. The winner of the second contest will be the fourth-seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Baseball Tournament with the loser going home.

Game Two

Victor Vargas went 2-for-2 after pinch hitting but the Beavers could not rally back, falling in game two to the Bloodhounds, 10-5.

Felice Martino (1-6) was tagged with the loss while Trevor Johnson (2-2) threw 140 pitches in a complete game victory for JJ.

John Jay plated the game's first run on an infield single/error to take a 1-0 lead. Ending the inning with another diving grab, Quatrone continued to be spectacular in center field.

After a hit by pitch and stolen base by Tavarez, Smith ripped a double to center field, his second of the day, to plate the shortstop and tie the contest at 1-1. Zapata followed with a double, his second of the day as well.

A huge second inning by John Jay gave the Bloodhounds a 6-1 lead as five runs came around to score in the frame.

An error allowed Colon to reach safely and after one out and Yoribaldis Olivo and pinch hitter Matt Sola-Baker reached on walks to load the bases. Quatrone was hit by a pitch, allowing Colon to score and cutting CCNY's deficit to 6-2.

John Jay struck again and added two runs in the third to take a six-run lead.

Down late in the game and with the playoffs on the line, CCNY rallied to score three runs in the sixth and have the tying run on first base. Chris Jimenez doubled to center field before advancing to third base on Vargas' single up the middle. Sola-Baker, who entered the game as a pinch hitter earlier in the contest, drove in Jimenez as runners were now on first and second with one out. Quatrone walked to load the bases and with two outs, Zapata hammered a single to center field to cut City College's deficit to 8-4 and leave the bases loaded.

Nwokelo reached on an error by the Bloodhounds' third baseman, allowing another run to score and leaving the bases loaded for CCNY but the Beavers stranded the bases loaded.
