Marymount Baseball Drops Pair to Hampden-Sydney

More news about: Marymount

Farmville, Va. – Marymount University's baseball squad came up short on Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair to Hampden-Sydney College in non-conference action.  The Saints dropped the opener 6-0 before falling 7-0 to the Tigers in the nightcap.  Marymount falls to 1-3 on the season.

Lorenzo Calderon, Brandon Orbe, and Bret Phillips were the only Saints to record hits in the opener, while Phillips also displayed some nice glove work in right field throughout the contest.  Overall, the Tiger offense would prove too much for Marymount, and several unearned runs in the last couple innings made the deficit insurmountable.

In game two, Jake Coleman and Ben Berczek posted the Saints only offense, with Coleman logging two infield singles and a stolen base in the effort.  Marymount would attempt a small coup in its final at-bat of the day, using several Tiger miscues and free passes to load the bases before recording an out.  Unfortunately, the Saints could not find any gaps in the Tiger defense.

With inclement weather expected over the next week, Marymount's return to the diamond remains uncertain.  Any updates can be found on www.MarymountSaints.com.
