San Antonio, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team opened up a tie game with a three-run fifth inning and then held on as the Cru posted a 6-3 victory over DeSales University Monday afternoon in San Antonio. UMHB improves to 7-1 on the season with the victory. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 0-2 on the year.

The Cru struck first on Tyler Taute's RBI double in the top of the first inning. Bradley Pounds' sacrifice fly in the top of the second made it 2-0, but the Bulldogs plated a run in the bottom of that frame to cut it to 2-1. UMHB stretched it to 3-1 on a Chase Burrow sacrifice fly in the top of the third, but the Bulldogs answered with two in the bottom of the third to tie it 3-3. Dakota Parsons led off the top of the fifth with a home run, Taute singled home another run and Justin Dingman's pinch-hit, RBI single gave the Cru a 6-3 advantage. The Bulldogs would put two runners on base in both the eighth and ninth innings, but could not push across a run.

Parsons led UMHB with three hits and Taute, Tripp Reeves and Will Stafford added two hits apiece. J.D. Perkins earned the win with one inning of hitless relief and Aaron Barteau struck out two batters in the ninth inning to nail down his first save of the year. Eight UMHB pitchers combined to limit the Bulldogs to three runs and struck out seven batters in the victory.

The Cru will return to action with a key American Southwest Conference series at Sul Ross State this weekend. The two teams will play a 7:00 PM single game on Friday before closing out the weekend with a 1:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday in Alpine.
