Husson Baseball Downed In Matinee With Wartburg

Winter Haven, FL - Husson baseball lost to Wartburg College of Iowa Thursday afternoon by a final 6-0. A strong starting pitching performance from Wartburg's Ben Rettenmeier propelled the Knights to the win. Rettenmeier went eight innings, giving up five hits and four walks while fanning five.

The Eagles offensively were led by junior outfielder Kyle Bishop, who had two of the six Husson hits in his four plate appearances. Cody McInnis, Brandon Gendreau, Jordan Carter and J.T. Whitten also had base-knocks for the home team Eagles.

The difference in the game came in the top of the third for Wartburg, as they pushed two runs across on an error and a single by Ryan Powers.

Powers kept it going for the Knights in the fifth, singling to right and advancing to second on the throw, scoring Jackson Litterer. Moments later Ryan Kemp doubled to left to score Powers and Tyler Mourgin.

Wartburg's final run came in the sixth with Mourgin singling to right field himself allowing Joe Grote to touch home plate.

Pat McEwen suffered the loss for Husson going six innings allowing all six Knight runs on eight hits, four of which earned, while walking three and striking out 1.

Casey Estes provided three strong innings of relief walking just one batter and sitting down four by way of the K.

The Eagles will take the field in Winter Haven twice more on Friday as they play Suffolk University of Boston on Friday at 3:00 and 5:30pm in a twin bill, their final games of the 2014 Florida schedule.
