William Paterson Baseball Drops Decision to Eastern Connecticut State

AUBURNDALE, FLA. – The William Paterson baseball team (4-5) dropped an 8-0 decision against Eastern Connecticut State (6-3) March 21 at the RussMatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational.

 

After single runs during the second, fourth and fifth innings, the Warriors put the game away with a four-run sixth.

 

Five different Pioneers accounted for WP's five hits. Senior Jake Menzo (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) fell to 1-1, allowing six hits and three runs (two earned) in 4.0 innings, walking five and striking out one. Junior Ryan Monaghan (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) gave up four runs, three of them earned, and three hits during 2.0 innings on the hill. Sophomore Mitch D'Amato (Edison, N.J./Edison) surrendered one run in the seventh, and classmate Cavan Penberthy (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) tossed a scoreless eighth inning.

 

Junior center fielder Joe Perez was 3-for-4 with two RBI for Eastern Connecticut State. Classmate Brent Pelella earned the victory (2-0), striking out seven while scattering four hits over 7.0 innings.

 

William Paterson will finish its Spring Break trip Saturday, March 22, against Denison at 9:30 a.m.
