MARIETTA, Ohio – Washington and Jefferson College scored two runs in the top of the tenth inning to defeat No. 11-ranked Marietta College by the score of 12-10 Thursday (March 27) evening at Don Schaly Stadium. The loss drops Marietta to 11-5 on the season, while the Presidents evened their record at 7-7.

First baseman Mitch Geers launched a solo home run deep over the leftfield fence to lead off the fifth for the Pioneers. It was MC's first home run of the season.

Washington and Jefferson's offense got on track in the middle three innings as well. The Presidents matched Marietta with six runs of their own and trailed the Pioneers 10-7 through six innings.

After a scoreless seventh, W&J plated three runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game at 10. The Presidents loaded the bases with one out for Michalski who drove in two with a single to center. Josh Staniscia tied the game with an RBI ground out later in the inning.

Two W&J errors gave the Pioneers runners at second and third with no outs in the bottom of the eighth. Senior Brian O'Neill worked out of trouble with a pair of ground balls and a strikeout.

Both teams managed to get a base runner in the ninth but neither team could push a run across.

McIlvaine led off the tenth with a double to left. Michalski followed with an RBI single up the middle scoring McIlvaine. W&J added an insurance run in the inning to take a 12-10 lead.

Senior Kyle McLain retired the Pioneers in order in the bottom of the tenth for his fifth save of the season. Freshman Tim Mulvey (1-1), brother of former Pioneer Mike Mulvey, got the win working 1.0 inning of shutout relief.

Marietta freshman Ray Sowinski (0-1) took the loss. Sowinski threw 1.0 inning and gave up two runs on three hits with a walk.

Junior shortstop Ryan Hanahan went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three runs scored. Center fielder Dylan Gracia had a pair of doubles and three RBI, while designated hitter Chris Winpigler went 2-for-5.
