NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – The upperclassman outfielder duo of junior Justin Miller (Yorktown, Ind.) and senior Ryne Lehrman (Hoagland, Ind.) each compiled two-hit, three-RBI games to aid in junior pitcher Sean Liedtky's eight-inning gem Sunday, April 6.

Miller drilled a double and scored twice as part of his afternoon at Gratz Field, while Lehrman also hit a two-bagger during a two-for-two day at the dish to help lead the Spartans (14-9 overall, 8-2 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) to the 8-1 victory. Freshman first baseman Tailur Szarenski (Bluffton, Ind.) added three hits and scored twice, while senior designated hitter Dan Maringer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) also added two hits as part of an 11-hit attack.

The Spartans' offense gave Liedtky plenty of support early, plating four runs in the first and three in the third. The junior from Walkerton, Ind., obliged holding the Fightin' Engineers (12-8 overall, 7-3 HCAC) to just three hits and one run while striking out five over eight innings to get his second win of the season.

MU, moving its current win string to seven, continues league play Tuesday, April 8. Defiance College of Ohio pays a visit for a 4:15 p.m. first pitch.

NOTES: The weekend sweep of Rose-Hulman, coupled with Anderson University winding up 2-1 against Franklin College, put the defending HCAC champions all alone at the top of the league standings … Junior outfielder Kyle Norris (Indianapolis, Ind.) upped his hit streak to seven games and his on-base string to 11 straight with a hit and a run scored … With the April 1 decision at Anderson included, the Spartan pitching staff had an impressive week. They compiled a miniscule 1.50 earned run average with 22 strikeouts and only six earned runs allowed in 36 innings of work.
