Keystone Completes Regular Season Sweep With a Pair of Wins at Marywood

Scranton, PA – After using a five-run seventh inning to break open a tie contest on their way to an 11-6 win in Thursday afternoon's first game, Keystone College's baseball team completed the doubleheader sweep with a 7-0 victory in the nightcap.  The Giants, who have now won 12 of their last 14 games, improve to 15-11 on the season and 10-2 in Colonial States Athletic Conference play while the Pacers fall to 10-10 this spring and 2-6 in league action.  
 
In Thursday's opener, Keystone jumped out to a 4-0 lead in their first at-bats by taking advantage of three hits and one Marywood error.  Lymbel Guerrero (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) remained hot with a two-run double to left-center that scored Dylan Corl (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch ) and Kevin Catherina (Ridgefield, NJ/St. Mary (Rutherford))Rick McLaughlin (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) followed with a double to the alley in left-center that plated Guerrero before scoring the Giants' fourth run on an RBI single off the bat of Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast).
 
Marywood cut their deficit in half with a pair of runs on two hits and two Keystone errors in the bottom of the third inning.  Erik Pulkkinen scored the Pacers' first run on a Thomas Richards sacrifice fly before Dan Hull touched home on an RBI double by Jason Portuhondo. 
 
The Giants pushed their lead to three runs in the top of the fifth inning when Reyes scored on an RBI groundout from Corl, but the Pacers took advantage of a three-run error by the visitors to level the game at 5-5 in the home half of the frame. 
 
Keystone went back in front, 8-5, with two outs in the visitor's seventh when Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) ripped a three-run home run over the left-center field fence to bring home McLaughlin and pinch runner Andre Castro (Kingston, NY/Kingston)Cody Darley (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) then singled home Reyes to push the Giants' before scoring on a double to right from Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack) to give the visitors a five-run advantage.  Angelucci scored Keystone's 11th run of the game on an RBI base hit down the left field line from Corl.
 
Marywood got a run back in the home half of the inning when Dominic Loughlin scored on a Zack Klien single, but it would be all the hosts could muster in their last at-bats. 
 
Keystone starting pitcher Robert Minaya (North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) allowed five runs - all of which were unearned - on six hits in 4.1 innings while taking a no-decision.  Adam Sosnowski (Dickson City, PA/Mid-Valley) (1-2) was credited with the win after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout while Junior Lazaro (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) yielded one run on two hits while recording the final three outs of the game.
 
Reyes went 4-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while Rojas and Darley collected two hits apiece.  Rojas added three RBIs and Corl drove in a pair of runs in the game one victory.
 
Marywood starter Bryan Noonan (2-2) was charged with the loss after surrendering 11 runs on 11 hits to go along with four strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work before turning the ball over to Robert Flynn who recorded the final out for the Pacers after allowing one hit. 
 
Portuhondo and Pulkkinen had two hits apiece for the Pacers while Loughlin drove in three runs in the loss. 
 
In Thursday's nightcap, Keystone took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning when McLaughlin reached on a fielders' choice and Guerrero came in to score on an error on the play.
 
The Giants doubled their lead in top of the sixth inning when Ricky Riscica (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) doubled home Catherina.  Kevin Luciano (Everett, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin School) then made it 4-0 contest with a two-run double to center that plated Riscica and Guerrero.
 
Keystone tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 7-0.  Reyes singled home Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack) before scoring on a Guerrero base hit.  Riscica then scored the Giants' final run of the game when Luciano singled to left field.
 
Dan Maguire (Ocean Township, NJ/Ocean Township) picked up his first win of the season after going six strong innings in which he scattered four hits while striking out six batters.  Michael Meszoros (Bridgeport, CT/Bassick) recorded the final three outs, including one by the K, while allowing one hit in the bottom of the seventh.
 
Guerrero went 3-3 with a walk while Riscica was 2-2 with a pair of free passes.  Luciano finished the game 2-4 with three RBIs to pace the Giants offensively.
 
Hull (1-2) was charged with the loss after starting on the hill for Marywood and giving up four runs on six hits in six innings of work.  Pulkkinen surrendered three runs on four hits while pitching the final inning for the Pacers.
 
Tommy Smith collected two of Marywood's five hits in the game two loss.
 
Keystone will return to the diamond on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Stevenson University for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. in Stevenson, MD.
