Rossi, Zanfordino Combine for One Hitter in Kean's 4-1 Win

La Verne, Calif. (3/18/15)Christopher Rossi and Vinny Zanfordino combined on a one-hitter as the Kean University baseball team propelled past the University of La Verne, 4-1.

Rossi earned the win as he didn't allow a hit until one out in the bottom of the seventh.  He (2-0) allowed three walks and struck out six with one unearned run.  Zanfordino earned his second save of the year after tossing two innings, with one walk and one strikeout.

#6/7 Kean registered single runs in the first and fourth innings, the later coming from an RBI single from Tom McGuckin, scoring Sal Taormina who reached via a double.

The Leopards (13-7) got their only run of the day in the fourth Jakob Thomas led off with a walk.  He made his way to third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing miscue to put the score at 2-1.

Junior Matt Meleo broke the game open with a two run blast, his second of the season, in the top of the eighth to add some insurance as the Cougars would go one to win by the final of 4-1.

Meleo, Taormina and McGuckin all finished with two hits apiece.

The two teams will square off again tomorrow in the last game of the west coast swing for the Cougars, game time is set for 2 p.m. local time.
