Bulldogs Sweep Albion Behind Strong Starting Pitching

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team got timely hitting and stout starting pitching on Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of Albion College at Nicolay Field. The Bulldogs improved to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the MIAA with scores of 5-1 and 6-1 against the Britons.

Jordan Frayer (2-1) went seven innings in game one and scattered six hits with one earned run coming in the seventh inning. Frayer walked one and struck out one during a 91-pitch effort which included 57 strikes. Nate Brubaker (0-2) lasted 4.1 innings and allowed three earned runs with seven walks and five strikeouts. His pitch count reached 112 with 59 strikes. Steven Scott finished the final 1.1 innings and allowed two earned runs with a walk.

Adrian had eight hits and pulled away for the Britons with runs in the fourth through sixth innings. Jeff Gertley had his ninth double of the season which was a RBI shot in the fourth. Josh Knorr reached base four times going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and also scored a run. Ryan Dorow went 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored. Matt Andrus had a two-RBI single in the sixth after replacing Brian Guck as designated hitter. Frank Resto had his first hit and RBI for the Bulldogs with a RBI single in the second.

Tommy Eng usually get the ball out of the bullpen but after 18 innings between these two teams yesterday in Albion, got the start in game two. Eng needed 82 pitches (54 strikes) in seven innings and allowed three hits and one earned run. He improved to 1-0 this season and allowed one walk with three strikeouts. Matt Temrowski lasted three innings for Albion and gave up six hits and four earned runs falling to 1-1. Patrick O'Brien threw two relief innings allowing four hits and two earned runs.

Adrian scored in each of the first three innings to lead 4-0. Eng gave up a run in the sixth with Adrian holding a 6-0 lead. Adrian smacked 11 hits in game two and Miccoy Drzewiecki hammered the ball going 3-for-4 with his first home run, two RBI doubles and two runs scored. Drew Shutes finished 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored. Resto had another RBI in game two and Collin Parcher had a double, run and RBI.
