#22 Webster Breaks Out Bats in 16-1 & 13-5 Wins

After seeing its 29-game conference streak come to an end the previous evening, the Webster University baseball team came back with a vengeance to beat Iowa Wesleyan College, 16-1, on March 22 at GCS Ballpark.  The #22 ranked Gorloks broke out the bats in the nightcap also, beating Illinois Wesleyan University, 13-5. 
 
Against Iowa Wesleyan, the Gorlok offense, which had 13 hits total in a double header vs. the Tigers the day before, opened up for a season high 19 hits, including seven extra-base hits.  Webster repeated the feat against Illinois Wesleyan, banging out 19 more hits, nine for extra-bases, for 38 total hits on the day.
 
In the 16-1 win over Iowa Wesleyan, after scoring a lone run in the first, Webster scored two in the second.  Jeff Kammer (SR, Chesterfield, MO/Lafayette HS) hit the first of three doubles to start the inning.  Matt Wollnik (SO, Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley HS) reached on an E5 that scored Kammer, with Wollnik taking second.  Zach Allam (JR, Bloomington, IN/Edgewood HS) singled, scoring Wollnik to make it 3-0.
 
The Gorloks added three more in the fourth.  With one out, Charlie Gandolfi (SR, Mundelein, IL/Mundelein HS) doubled and Mike Golich (FR, Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) singled and stole second.  Max Fecske (SO, North Hollywood, CA/Notre Dames HS) walked and Blake Thomas (JR, Troy, IL/Triad HS) followed with a bases-clearing double to make it 6-0.
 
A ten-run sixth blew the game wide open for Webster.  Thomas doubled in Fecske, who had walked.  Kyle Uhrich (JR, St. Louis, MO/Webster Groves HS) singled, and Kammer doubled in Thomas.  A Dylan Rajkovich (JR, Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg HS) sac fly scored Uhrich.   Wollnik singled in Kammer, and Connor Hogan (SO, New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way West HS) reached on an E6.
 
A ground out by pinch-hitter Graham Smith (FR, Nicholasville, KY/Lexington Christian Academy) scored Wollnik.  Brett Jungles (SO, Naperville, IL/St. Francis HS) singled in Hogan, Fecscke singled, and  Aaron Meyers (FR, New Haven, MO/Washington HS) singled in Jungles.  Uhrich's third home run in two days, a three-run opposite field job, scored Fecske and Meyers, making it 16-0.
 
Isaac Behme (SR, Harrisburg, IL/Harrisburg HS) started and pitched five scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and two walks, while striking out six.  He picked up the win and is 2-1.  Johnny Lord (SO, Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley HS) pitched the final two innings, allowing three hits and a run.  The game ended in the seventh inning on the 10-run rule.
 
Thomas was 2-4, with five RBIs, two doubles, and a stolen base.  Kammer was 4-5 with three doubles, two runs, and an RBI.  Uhrich was 2-5, with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored.  Fecske was 2-3 with four runs scored and two walks.  Golich was 3-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored.
 
Against Illinois Wesleyan, Webster grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first.  Golich doubled, Fecske reached on a bunt but was out stealing, and Thomas doubled in Golich to make it 1-0.  Uhrich followed with his fourth home run in four games, a three-run bomb that hit high off the left field light tower at GCS.
 
In Webster's half of the third, Thomas and Kammer singled, and a Rajkovich double drove in Thomas. Wollnik doubled in Kammer and Rajkovich, and Allam doubled with Wollnik taking third.  Gandolfi sent Wollnik home with a sacrifice fly to make it 7-2, Gorloks.
 
Webster added four more in the fourth.  Golich led off with a walk, followed by a Feckse single.  A sacrifice fly by Thomas scored Golich, and then a three-run opposite field homer to right by Kammer put the Gorloks up 11-2.  It was Kammer's third home run and gave him 12 RBIs and 11 extra-base hits on the season.
 
Uhrich popped his team-leading sixth home run, an opposite field shot to right as well, in the sixth inning.  It was his fifth in five games, third in the double header, and gave him a team-high 23 RBIs on the year.  Kammer singled and eventually scored on a double by Gandolfi to make it 13-4.

Chris Jansen (SR, Cicero, IN/Bishop Chatard HS) started and was relieved in the third with two outs, after giving up two runs, and runners at first and second.   Matt Goro (SO, Wildwood, MO/Lafayette HS) was called on and allowed a single to load the bases but struck out the next batter to end the inning.   Dylan Dean Smith (SR, Albion,IL/Edwards County HS) took over from Goro in the seventh and pitched a scoreless inning.  Joe Elfrink (SO, Leopold, MO/Leopold HS) pitched the eighth, giving up a run, and Uhrich came in from first base and finished up with a scoreless ninth, striking out two.  
 
Jansen went 2 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, two hits, and striking out one.  Goro went 3 1/3 innings, allowed four hits, one earned run, and struck out seven to pick up the win.  Goro is 2-0 on the year. 
 
Uhrich was 3-5, with two home runs, three RBIs, and three runs scored.  He finished the day 6-10 with three home runs, six RBIs, and five runs scored.  Kammer was 3-3, with a home run, three RBIs, three runs, a walk, and reached on a hit by pitch. Kammer was 7-8 on the day, with a home run, three doubles, four RBIs, and five runs.  Thomas was 2-4, with two RBIs, a double, and two runs scored.  He wound up 4-8 with seven RBIs and three doubles. 
 
The Gorloks are 2-1 in the SLIAC and 10-5 overall.  Webster travels to Louisville, KY, on March 28 for a double header vs. Spalding University.
