YORK, Pa. - The #16/11 Frostburg State baseball team battled York (Pa.) in a true pitcher's duel Friday afternoon and came away with a 3-1 Capital Athletic Conference victory.

After three scoreless innings, it was the Bobcats (17-2, 8-1 CAC) that struck first as they plated three runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Senior Zach Weiss led off the frame with a single to centerfield before a wild pitch moved him to second. Junior Zach Keeler worked a two-out walk to put two on for Frostburg. Senior Lane Farmer dealt the damaging blow with an-RBI double down the left field line to bring around Weiss and put two runners in scoring position. Junior Jamaal Windom roped a single down the left field line to score Keeler and Farmer and give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.

Freshman right hander Greg Schneider found himself in a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fourth but managed to work his way out of the inning unscathed. After getting the first Spartan to foul out to senior Ricky Brady at first, the next two batters for YCP reached safely. Schneider got Scott Steffy looking for the second out of the frame but walked Micahel Moore to load the bases. Staying steady under pressure, Schneider got Messina to chase the third strike and end the inning.

The Bobcats stranded runners on the corners in the fifth before the Spartans scored their first run of the game. With one out and one on, Brad Wenzel doubled to center field to score Logan Countrymen and cut the Bobcat lead to 3-1. Schneider got the next two Spartans out to end the frame and limit the damage.

Schneider retired the next eight batters he saw into to maintain the Bobcats lead. In all, Schneider struck out a career-high 11 batters as he gave Frostburg another solid performance on the mound. Schneider went 7.0 innings and allowed just one run on five hits and walked just two to earn his fourth win of the year.

Senior Clayton Freimuth relieved Schneider on the mound for his sixth appearance and just second out of the bullpen for FSU.  Freimuth tossed the eighth and ninth inning for his first save as a Bobcat. Freimuth did not allow a hit and walked just one while striking out four.

Dan Gurganus fell to 1-1 on the season for the Spartans after throwing a complete game and allowing three runs, all earned, 10 hits and two walks while striking out five.

Farmer led the Bobcats at the plate going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Frostburg State returns to action when the Bobcats host St. Mary's (Md.) on Tuesday, March 31 in a CAC doubleheader a 1:00 pm.
