LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Spalding University baseball team swept both games of a doubleheader over No. 20/25 Webster University, 6-4 and 4-3, marking the first time the Gorloks have been swept in a SLIAC doubleheader since 2003. With the win Spalding improves to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in conference.

The Golden Eagles used a three run fifth inning to top the Gorloks 6-4 in the first game.

Brad Speek led the Golden Eagles at the plate going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Blake Patterson drove in a pair of runs on a 1-for-3 effort.

Ryan Mosby (2-0) earned the win allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out five batters and walking one.

Spalding held a 2-1 lead after one inning. The Gorloks got on the board in the top of the inning when SU catcher JR Belt attempted to throw out Kyle Uhrich stealing second, which allowed Charlie Gandolfi to steal home. However, the Golden Eagles answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Nic Chafin reached on a leadoff walk and a Jacob Woodruff sacrifice bunt moved him to second. Kam Bruner drove in Chafin with a double to right field, and Speek doubled to center field bringing Chafin across the dish.

Webster responded with two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead, but SU scored a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 3-3. With two outs, Austin Drake singled to left field, Chafin singled and Woodruff reached on a walk to juice the bases. Drake raced home following an errant throw on a pickoff attempt at first base to knot the score.

Following a scoreless third and fourth inning, the Golden Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead.  Woodruff singled to shortstop to lead off the inning and Kam Bruner lined a single to right field advancing Woodruff to third. Speek followed with a single to left scoring Woodruff to give SU a 4-3 lead. Seven-hole batter Blake Patterson drove in the game-winner with a single to center field bringing in Bruner and Speek.

Dylan Rajkovich homered to left field in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Spalding lead to two runs, but the Eagle defense held strong in the seventh to earn the win.

In the second game, the Golden Eagles used clutch hitting to walk-off with the 4-3 victory.

Nic Chafin and Austin Drake led SU with two hits apiece, and Chafin, Bruner and Vire each drove in an RBI.

Freshman Josh Exton (2-1) got the win, allowing three runs, two earned on four hits, striking out seven batters and walking one.

The Golden Eagle Nine jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Chafin ledoff the inning with a single to short and rounded the bases for the Eagles first run on a Bruner double to left field. Speek followed with a single up the middle sending Bruner to third and Speek advanced to second on the throw, and Korie Vire singled through the five-hole scoring Bruner and Speek.

Spalding added a run in the fourth inning to push their lead to three runs. JR Belt reached on a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. A passed ball prompted Belt to race to third and an errant throw by Gorlok catcher Zach Allam allowed Belt to come home.

After six scoreless innings, the Gorloks got on the board in the seventh inning. Leadoff batter Mike Golich double to left field, advanced to third on a Thomas Blake fly out to right field and scored on a Kyle Uhrich single to right field.

Webster scored two runs in the top of the ninth to knot the score at three runs apiece. Golich reached on a Drew Beckmann error and Jake Celleghin reached on balls. An Uhrich double to left field brought in Golich and Celleghin to tie the game.

Down to their last out, the boys in blue answered with a run to earn the win, 4-3. Austin Drake ripped a triple to right field, and Nic Chafin drove him in with a walk-off single to third base.
