More news about: Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – For the fourth time in his career, senior Tommy Bergjans was named the Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week after striking out 15 Johns Hopkins' hitters in Haverford's 5-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Kannerstein Field.

The two-time Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Year allowed four hits and walked two batters to pick up his second win of the season. His 15 strikeouts are tied for the second most in program history.

Bergjans now has 301 career strikeouts making him just the second pitcher in Centennial Conference history to reach that milestone. He already has the conference record for most 10+ strikeout games with 13 and with two more strikeouts, he'll set a new conference mark.

The two-time All-American is off to a fantastic start during the 2015 season. The senior is 2-1 overall and has not allowed an earned run in 20 2/3 innings of work. Dating back to last season, Bergjans has given up just one earned run in his last 35 2/3 innings. He's holding opponents to a .162 batting average and is averaging 16.6 strikeouts per nine innings.

Head coach Dave Beccaria's team's record now stands at 5-9 overall. The Fords will travel to Hood Trophy rival Swarthmore on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) before home games with Moravian on Wednesday (4 p.m.) and Swarthmore on Thursday (3:30 p.m.).
