Robertson Wins 200th; #12 Bobcats Sweep St. Mary's

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State baseball team improved to 19-2 on the year with a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of St. Mary's (Md.), Tuesday afternoon. With the 16-2 win in the first game, head coach Guy Robertson won his 200th as a Bobcat. Frostburg finished the sweep with a 13-6 win in the nightcap of the twin bill.

Prior to the games today, the Bobcats jumped four spots to 12th in the d3baseball.com top-25 poll and three spots to eighth in the ABCA DIII poll. The No. 8 ranking ties the highest ranking for the Bobcats in program history.

Frostburg State jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead in the first two innings as the Bobcats collected 12 of their 16 hits in the first two frames. The Bobcats strung together five singles in the second for four of their seven runs of the frame.

With two outs, the Seahawks plated their only runs of the game as Luke Green tripled to left field to score Brad Dioguardo and Max Godwin and cut the Bobcat lead to 13-2.

Frostburg got both of the runs back and more in the seventh to bring the score to 16-2. Junior Jeremy Remalia led off the frame with his first home run as a Bobcat as he launched a 2-0 pitch over the left field fence. Freshman Greg Schneider legged out a triple to centerfield and came home as sophomore JT Tipton launched his first career home run to give Frostburg the 16-2 advantage.

Senior Bennett Schiltz earned his sixth win on the mound for the Bobcats after tossing 5.0 innings. The senior allowed just two runs, both unearned, on five hits while striking out seven and not allowing a walk.

Frostburg once again took an early lead in the second game as the Bobcats plated two runs in the first inning. After the Seahawks got a run back in the second, Frostburg exploded for five runs, including a three-run home run from junior Connor Cooper to take a 7-1 lead.

The Bobcats pushed their lead to 9-1 with two more runs in the fourth. Senior Ricky Castro led off the frame with a home run over the
center field fence before junior Zach Keeler doubled home senior Zach Weiss.

The Seahawks scored a run in the top of the fifth and two more in the sixth to cut the Bobcat lead to 9-4. After the Bobcats got one run back in the sixth, the two teams traded runs in the seventh as the Bobcats led 11-5.

Frostburg pushed its lead to 13-5 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth. Tipton singled home senior Nick Walker with the bases loaded and senior Nick McElfish drew a walk to bring home Keeler.

St. Mary's scored the final run of the ballgame as Luke Green singled to left field to bring home Matt Holdefer and bring the score to its final at 13-6.

Senior Clayton Freimuth earned his fifth win of the year as he went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out five.

Cooper led the Bobcats at the plate going 6-for-9 with two doubles and a home run. The rightfielder scored three runs and drove in three. Senior Ricky Brady led the Bobcats with six RBI on the day.

Frostburg returns to action as the Bobcats host Southern Virginia at Bob Wells Field at 4:00 pm tomorrow afternoon.
