Hornets Two-Bag Way to 10-3 Victory over Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC – The Lynchburg College baseball team mashed seven doubles on the afternoon en route to a 10-3 non-conference victory over Greensboro College Tuesday afternoon. The victory gives the Hornets a season split with The Pride, with each team winning on the road.

The first run of the game came off a double as KC Caldwell sent a ball into the left-center field gap, finding himself on second as Jonathan Munn raced home for a 1-0 Hornet lead in the second inning.

Lynchburg added another tally in the third as Rob Tomasulo doubled home Joe Rogers, but Greensboro would respond with a pair in the bottom of the frame to tie it up. Jordan Powell walked with one on and two out, setting the table for Andrew Toney who doubled in Powell and Brandon Soden to knot it at two.

That is as close as the contest would get as Lynchburg plated seven runs in the fourth for a 9-2 lead. Lynchburg took advantage of a walk, wild pitch, and error to score the third run of the game on Greensboro miscues before the bats took over.

Drew Taylor had an RBI single to make it 4-2 but the biggest blows came from the middle of the order as Munn, Tomasulo, and Caldwell all doubled while combining for five RBI.

Pat Harris (1-0) was dominant on the mound in his first appearance of the year. He heaved 103 pitches (68 strikes) in seven innings of work. He surrendered three runs on eight hits and just one walk while striking out nine.

Taylor, Munn and Rogers all had a double while Caldwell and Tomasulo collected two each. Tomasulo led the Hornets with three RBI as Taylor, Rogers and Munn each scored twice.

Soden and Tyler Henderson had three hits each for Greensboro (11-19).

Lynchburg (9-17/4-7) travels to Hampden-Sydney College (10-16-1/7-7) for a huge Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
