Emory rallies to defeat baseball, 8-5

ATLANTA -- Emory University came back from a 2-run deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning with a 5-run frame, rallying to defeat Berry College, 8-5, on Tuesday. Emory improved to 20-10 overall for the season. The Vikings dropped to 18-14-1. 

Ben Jernigan and Sam Joyce both recorded a double for the visiting Vikings. Jernigan scored twice and Joyce found home once.

Berry built a 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. Jerngian scored the team's fourth run on a throwing error by the catcher in the fifth inning. Kevin Scottsingled home Jernigan for BC's last run in the eighth inning.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Emory started the frame with 3-straight hits, including an RBI single from Brian Hernandez to pull Emory within a run. After a sacrifice bunt from Ben Vizvary moved the tying and go-ahead runs into scoring position with one out, Philip Maldari reached on an error, scoring both runs. Wes Peacock and Jordan Selbach each followed with RBI doubles, extending the Eagles' lead to 8-5.

Berry reliever Joey Bell allowed the five runs in the bottom of the eighth, taking the loss to drop to 0-1 on the year. The Vikings used 5 pitchers in the game. Will Estes started and allowed 3 runs.

The Eagles had 12 hits to 7 for the Vikings.

The Vikings travel to Hendrix this weekend for a 3-game SAA series.
