Bulldogs Pepper the Ball with 19 Runs in Game 2 Completing Sunday Sweep at Alma

ALMA, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team has extended their conference lead to four games after a pair of wins on Sunday at Alma. The Bulldogs also extended their win streak over the Scots to 28 games in the process.

The Bulldogs picked up win No. 20 in game one's 4-1 victory behind a strong pitching performance by junior Jordan Frayer. He went seven innings and allowed three hits including no extra-base hits. Frayer gave up an earned run in the fourth inning and finished with two walks and a career-high nine strikeouts. He needed 94 pitches to improve to 4-1 on the mound this season with 63 strikes. Philip Jock got the start for Alma and made his second appearance in the series. He failed to hold a lead in game two yesterday in a game that Adrian won 3-2 in nine innings. Jock went 6.1 innings and threw 120 pitches including 69 strikes. He allowed eight hits including three doubles with four earned runs, two walks and four strikeouts. The loss lowered his record to 3-4 on the season.

Adrian scored twice in the second and third to build a 4-0 lead. In the second, Frank Resto singled home Miccoy Drzewiecki and Matt Andrus. Drzewiecki singled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a one-out double by Andrus. In the third, Ryan Dorow walked and moved to third on a Drew Shutes double down the left field line. Collin Parcher stepped up with a two-out, two-run single up the middle making it 4-0. Alma picked up their run in the fourth on a two-out RBI single by Dayne San Miguel.

The Bulldogs scored a season-high 19 runs in game two's 19-6 victory. It also marked the most runs in a game since a 23-13 win over Capital on March 1, 2012. Adrian scored runs in the first five innings including eight runs in the third. They pounded out 17 hits against seven Alma pitchers including five doubles and two home runs. Dorow and Parcher each went yard with Dorow's a two-run shot to left in the third and Parcher's a three-run bomb to left also in the third.

Zach Leach went 3-for-4 with a double from the leadoff spot and scored three times. Dorow went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a walk. Jeff Gertley went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Drzewiecki went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. His six-game hit streak is currently longest on the team. Parcher drove in a season-high five runs. Andrus went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI.

On the mound for the Bulldogs, Collin Korte got the start and went three innings of no-hit ball with two walks and four strikeouts. Tyler Gnodtke picked up his second win of the season as the third hurler for Adrian. He went 2.1 innings and allowed two hits while walking two and striking out a pair. Alex Valasek got the start for Alma and lasted just one inning taking the loss (2-2). He allowed four earned runs and four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
