Baseball Drops Tough 4-2 Contest to Roanoke

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team scored two early runs but was held scoreless over the final seven innings as Roanoke College defeated the Hornets 4-2 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game Thursday afternoon with tremendous tournament implications.

The Maroons got on the board first with RBI singles from Will Decker and Cal Hodgert in the top of the first frame. Lynchburg cut it to 2-1 with a Luke Rodgers rope up the middle that scored Joe Rogers, tying it up in the second on a Wil Parsons RBI single through the left side that plated Will Hylton.

Caleb Crutchfield did the damage for Roanoke in the third with an RBI double for a 3-2 advantage and plated the final run in the fifth with a single that scored Decker.

Chad Hill (2-0) picked up the win for Roanoke (13-13/10-8 ODAC) with five innings of scoreless relief. He allowed one hit and issued three walks while striking out two. Decker went 4-for-4 at the plate.

David Goulding (2-3) threw 8 1/3 innings for Lynchburg while striking out three and walking one. Three of the four runs he surrendered were earned.

Lynchburg (13-19/8-9) will travel to No. 6/8 Shenandoah University Saturday for an ODAC doubleheader beginning at noon. Lynchburg needs to win at least one of the two contests and get some help to stay alive in the ODAC tournament hunt.
