Orange, Calif. - Sophomore pitcher David Gerics threw seven strong innings and senior shortstop Sam Fox stretched his hitting streak to 27 games with a two-run home run as the Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team clinched a SCIAC Tournament bid with an 8-3 road win over Chapman on Saturday. 

With the win, Pomona-Pitzer is now 27-10 on the year overall and 19-7 in the SCIAC, putting it alone in first place in the SCIAC, but tied in the loss column with Cal Lutheran (18-7) which had a game rained out on Saturday. With two wins tomorrow, the Sagehens would clinch at least a share of the 2015 SCIAC title with Cal Lutheran, or win it outright if the Kingsmen were to lose one. 

The Sagehens took control of the game with a five-run second inning, as senior second baseman Kenny Rabin hit a two-run double to start the scoring. Sophomore catcher Kevin Jordan added an RBI single to stretch it 3-0 and Fox capped it off with a homer down the left field line, his sixth round-tripper of the season. 

Fox has now had a hit in 36 of 37 games for the Sagehens this season, with the only exception coming in a win over Redlands, when he was 0-for-2 with two hit by pitches and a walk back on Feb. 21.  

That was all the offense Gerics would need, as he allowed just one run and seven hits in seven innings of work to pick up his fifth win of the season. Peyton Holm threw the last two innings and allowed two unearned runs, but that was all Chapman could muster as the Panthers were eliminated from SCIAC Tournament contention. 

Pomona-Pitzer hosts Redlands tomorrow at 11 a.m., after the Bulldogs picked up two wins on Saturday to improve to 18-8, leaving them tied with La Verne one game behind the Sagehens in a tight race for the SCIAC crown. The Sagehens then finish the regular season with a 3 p.m. home game against CMS.
