FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Maritime baseball team had 12 runs and 20 hits in Friday evening's matchup against Lebanon Valley at the Bob Gladwin Complex, but it wasn't enough as the team fell by the score of 13-12 in a rain-shortened seven inning game.

For the Privateers, 20 hits in one contest had not been accomplished since April 26, 2013 against NYU-Poly, and done just once before that in the last 11 seasons of Privateer baseball dating back to the start of the 2005 campaign.

The top six in Maritime's starting lineup each had multi-hit games, including three-hit games from junior Kevin Monahan (Seaford, N.Y./MacArthur), sophomore Brian McLaughlin (Massapequa, N.Y./St. John the Baptist), and freshman Chris Deddo (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville). Senior Matthew Sollin (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) picked up a team-best three RBIs, while Monahan and junior Paul Woodburn (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown)each drove home two apiece.

On the hill, rookie Brian Hughes (Maspeth, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) got his first career start and tossed three innings. Four other pitchers combined to pitch the final 3 2/3 innings, including the collegiate debuts of rookies Tim McQuail (Middle Village, N.Y./Cathedral Prep)Tyler Stuart (Palm Coast, Fla./Matanzas) and Eric Kwiecinski (Commack, N.Y./St. Dominic), while seniorJames Very (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) was last on the hill for the Privateers.

Maritime jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the first, Deddo got the game started with a single to center, but was later picked off while senior Joe Longo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) struck out swinging. With two outs, McLaughlin laced a single up the middle, followed by Sollin bringing him all the way around with a double to right-centerfield.

Monahan reaching on an infield knock, and was brought around by Woodburn, who doubled to right field. Freshman Aaron Schiavoni (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) singled to right-centerfield to chase home Woodburn and give Maritime a 4-0 advantage as the ball was handed off the Hughes.

The first three batters reached, but Hughes then settled down and struck out the next two batters. Lebanon Valley's next two batters singled to score three runs, as Maritime's lead was trimmed down to one.

Longo got a one out rally going in the second with an infield single, McLaughlin then singled to put two on for Sollin. The Privateer backstop helped out his team with a long driving triple to right field as he put the Privateers up 6-3. Monahan reached on another infield single as Sollin scampered home with the seventh Maritime run.

Hughes then worked in and out of trouble in the second and third frames, but did not allow a run as he stranded a pair of runners in each inning. Meanwhile, the Maritime offense tacked on another run in the fourth on as McLaughlin reached on an error, stole second and came in on a Monahan single.

The Dutchmen scored four runs in each of the next two innings, on five combined hits to take their first lead of the game at 9-8, and then took an 11-8 lead heading into the sixth inning. Lebanon Valley added one more run in the bottom of the sixth on a two-base error and a pair of groundouts.

Maritime's bats came back to life in the top of the seventh inning as Woodburn got the rally going with a one out single. Freshman Paul Bosch (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) picked up his first career hit with a pinch single to put two runners on base. Two batters later, junior Bruce Tyler (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) singled to score Woodburn, followed by a Deddo single to bring Bosch home.

Longo then reached on an infield single, which allowed Bruce to score to pull Maritime back within one. Up next was McLaughlin, who reached on a single to right centerfield to bring home Deddo with the game-tying run.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the first batter was walked by Very but was erased by Sollin as he tried to steal second base. The next two batters reached, and moved up to second and third. The next batter reached on a fielder's choice to erase the lead runner at home. However, the next batter singled to bring home to team's 13th run.

The umpires called the game after the go-ahead single as the field had taken on water for the majority of the game, and with the Dutchmen as the home team the run sealed the win for Lebanon Valley.

Very took the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season after allowing the run in the bottom of the seventh.
