ITHACA, N.Y. (May 3, 2015) – Junior Jayson Yano tossed a complete game and drove in the go-ahead RBI in the eighth inning to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball past Ithaca College 6-1 on Sunday.
 
The Ducks ended their two-game skid, moving to 27-12 while Ithaca fell to 17-14.
 
After a scoreless three and a half innings, the host Bombers struck first in the bottom of the fourth for their only run of the matinee. A pair of singles by Christian Brown and Trevor Thompson put runners on first and second, and Stephen Yanchus bounced a groundball back to the mound for what should have been an inning ending double play, but a throwing error scored Brown from second.
 
Yano settled down, and did not allow a runner past second base the remainder of the contest. Andrew Sanders for Ithaca was equally as dominate, as put up zeros in the run column for the first seven innings. The Ducks threatened in the fifth and sixth innings, putting runners on first and second with no outs in both frames, but Sanders buckled down and escaped the jam both instances.
 
His luck ran out in the top of the eighth however. Senior Marc Calleo singled through the left side on a full count, and junior Jonathan Toro advanced him to second with perfectly executed sacrifice bunt. A walk to junior Tyler Bush, followed by a groundout put men on second and third with two outs. Yano came up and helped his own cause with a two-run single up the middle.
 
Stevens added a four spot in the top of the ninth, starting off with freshman Tommy Baronner working a walk. Senior Gregg Nickels was hit with a pitch, and then senior Ryan Mannello dropped down a bunt that ended up striking the bat which prevented the ball from rolling foul, giving Mannello a single. Calleo stepped up and rapped a two-run double down the left field line, which was followed up by Mannello scampering home on a wild pitch. Toro, who had reached on a walk, came home on a throwing error by the pitcher to end the scoring for the Ducks.
 
Calleo had three hits while Toro reached base twice and also dropped down two sacrifice bunts. Yano was excellent, allowing eight hits with only the one unearned run, striking out three while only walking one.
 
Josh Savacool, Yanchus and Zach Cole all had two hits for the Bombers while Sanders struck out four in his seven and a third innings.
 
Stevens concludes its regular season as it battles Rutgers-Camden in Camden with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
