RICHMOND, Ind. (Feb. 20, 2016) – The Sewanee baseball team dropped a pair of games at Earlham, Saturday, at Sadler Stadium.

In game one, it was all Earlham. The Quakers scored a run in the first, two more in the third, another in the fifth, and four runs in the bottom of the six inning.

Overall, Earlham pounded out 13 hits and had all eight runs coming via RBIs. First baseman Eric Elkus led the way with a 2-for-3 performance with a homerun, two RBI, and three runs scored. Cather Cody Krumlauf, who followed Elkus in the lineup, finished 3-for-4 with an RBI.

On the mound, starter Howie Smith earned the win after he allowed no runs and only five hits in 7.0 innings. Tiger starter Drew Mancuso took the loss after allowing four runs, all earned, in 4.2 innings. Mancuso did strike out six despite allowing eight hits.

At the plate, Derek Hullings and Tyler Minkkinen both finished with two hits each.

In the nightcap, Earlham rallied for an early 5-0 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, seventh, and ninth innings.

Sewanee got on the board when Mancuso crushed a two-run homerun in the top of the second. The Tigers then added three more runs three innings later. With Jackson Cooper and Ryan Poole on, Minkkinen ripped a two-run triple that pushed the Tiger lead to 4-0. A batter later, Hullings drove in the Tiger third baseman.

Unfortunately, Sewanee could not hold the lead. With two outs, Brennan Laird singled over Krumlauf with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Laird then advanced to third while Krumlauf scored on a wild pitch. In that same at-bat, Brandon Smalling singled in Laird for the game winner.

Sewanee closer J.J. Clements earned the loss after giving up the lead in the ninth. Sewanee starter J.T. Hintzen was outstanding allowing three earned runs while striking out nine in 8.0 innings.

Sewanee and Earlham will complete their three-game series with a noon contest, Sunday.
