Oxy Rallies in 9th For Win at CMS

CLAREMONT — Devon DeRaad went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs, Brady Fuller stayed hot at the plate with three hits and the Occidental baseball team rallied from down one in the top of the ninth inning to win at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-4 at Arce Field on Friday.

It's the first of the a three-game series between the Stags and the Tigers this weekend. The teams play a doubleheader at Oxy on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. at Anderson Field.

Season Impact: The Tigers have won five in a row, improving to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in SCIAC play.

CMS goes to 3-9 and 2-5.

With his team trailing 4-3 with one out in the ninth, DeRaad hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Fuller, who started the rally and finished the day 3 of 5 from the plate. 

Fuller is now hitting .583 in SCIAC and is on an eight-game hitting streak.

Eamon McNeil drove in Charlie Caccamo with a single to give Oxy the lead and Reid Gibbs walked with the bases loaded to bring in Jack Brancheau as the insurance run to finish off the ninth.

Scott Ericksen pitched just one out, but was credited with the win for the Tigers.

Oxy starter Nolan Watson had a good day on the mound, giving up three earned runs, while striking out five in 7.2 innings pitched.

Walker Marks hit a home run to left center and the Tigers scored their first two runs in the fourth. They another in the seventh when Caccamo drove in Graham Pimm with an RBI-double.

Caccamo was 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored, Brancheau was 2 for 5 and Eamon McNeil was 2 for 2 with an RBI for the Tigers. 

Jacob Brady took the loss in relief for CMS.
