Rhodes sweeps Sewanee in doubleheader

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 5, 2016) – Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes topped the Sewanee baseball team Saturday at Stauffer Field.

The Lynx opened by winning the first game 10-0 and then took the nightcap 12-4.

Game One – Rhodes 10 – Sewanee 1

Behind an outstanding performance by Rhodes's pitchers Daniel Morris, Jake Sossamon, and Daniel Kurtzer, the Lynx allowed only one hit by the Tigers. The lone Sewanee hit came from Josh Roberts.

Rhodes starter Morris finished with five strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. Relievers Sossamon and Kurtzer combined for only a strikeout, but did not give up a hit the final two innings.

Sewanee starter Drew Mancuso dropped to 0-3 after he allowed eight hits and six runs in 5.0 innings. He did manage to strikeout five.

Game Two – Rhodes 12 – Sewanee 4

Rhodes jumped out to a 12-1 lead by the end of the third inning before the Tigers added three runs in the top of the sixth.

Sewanee starter J.J. Clements and reliever Roberts gave up a combined 12 earned runs and 13 hits in the first 2.2 innings.

At the plate, Jackson Cooper finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. Mancuso added a hit and two RBI while Ryan Poole drove in one run.

Sewanee and Rhodes conclude their series at noon on Sunday.
