Hood Takes Two from Central Penn

FREDERICK, Md. - Sophomore Brooks Warrenfeltz (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) reached base in all eight of his plate appearances and Hood College got strong pitching performances from Travis Schweizer(Chesapeake, Va. / Grassfield) and Jake Franke (Lisbon, Md. / Glenelg) to sweep visiting Central Penn, 8-1 and 15-0.

Warrenfeltz went 7-for-7 with a double, two walks and four runs batted in. In the opener, he was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, a double and three RBIs. Warrenfeltz was 3-for-3 in game two, scoring once and driving in one.

Schweizer threw a complete game, three-hitter in the first game. He allowed an unearned run and walked two. In the nightcap, Franke allowed just three baserunners in five shutout innings.

GAME ONE: HOOD 8, CENTRAL PENN 1

Warrenfeltz and Dylan Johnson (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) drove in three runs apiece, which proved to be more than enough offense behind the arm of Schweizer. 

Johnson went 3-for-4 in the game. Quinn Fulton (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) had a hit and two walks.

The Blazers went ahead 1-0 in the third when Tyler Cook (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove) singled and scored on a base hit by Warrenfeltz. In the fifth, Cam Esposito (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional) and Fulton drew one-out walks; and Warrenfeltz, Johnson and Chris Shriver (Frederick, Md. / Gov. Thomas Johnson) had RBI base hits during a four-run inning to make it 5-0.

After the Knights got a run back in the top of the sixth, Hood put the game away with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Warrenfeltz drew a bases loaded walk, Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Johnson added an RBI groundout.

Braedon Thomas was 2-for-2 with a walk for the Knights.

GAME TWO: HOOD 15, CENTRAL PENN 0

Hood's offense erupted for its season-high in runs, while Franke, Kole Hearn (Seaford, Del. / Sussex Tech) and Josh Matthews (Huntingtown, Md. / Huntingtown) combined for the shutout.

After Franke pitched five strong innings, Hearn tossed a perfect sixth inning. Matthews struck out two in scoreless seventh.

Warrenfeltz led the offense with three hits, while Esposito, Cook and Zach Scheuerman (Abingdon, Md. / Patterson Mill) had two hits apiece. Cook and Scheuerman drove in two runs apiece. 

Hood scored five runs in both the second and fourth innings, adding two in the third and three in the sixth. 

The Blazers used multiple substitutes in game. Jack Williams (Elkton, Md. / Tome School) had a hit, drove in a run and scored. Mike Amatucci (Baltimore, Md. / Calvert Hall) and Eric Turner (Brevard, N.C. / Rosman) knocked in runs. 

The wins evened Hood's record at 4-4. The Blazers travel to Catholic on Mar. 12.
