Earlham Baseball Routs Norwich 17-2 in Seven Innings

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Earlham College baseball team batted around and them some in a nine-run third inning propelling the Quakers to a 17-2 win over Norwich (Vt.) in seven innings on Tuesday afternoon.

After two scoreless innings, Earlham cashed in during the third inning. The Quakers tallied three hits, drew two walks, were hit by four pitches, and used one error to score nine runs. Senior Thomas Rea provided the pop, hitting a grand slam to left field, his second home run of the season.

The Quakers added three more runs in the fifth inning and put up a five-spot in the sixth.

In total, Earlham tallied 12 hits, drew nine walks, and was hit by six pitches.

Junior John Cornett improved to 2-0 on the season, allowing seven hits and striking out six in six innings of work.

Rea finished 3-4 with a home run, four RBIs, a walk, and three runs scored. Junior Nate Lynch added two hits and two runs scored. 10 different Quakers recorded at least one hit.

The Quakers improve to 8-1 on the season and face Albright (Pa.) at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday).
