Baruch Loses Doubleheader to Alvernia

The baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to Alvernia University on Sunday in Fort Myers, Florida.

The Bearcats suffered a 7-0 shutout in the morning contest and managed only one hit as Crusaders' star Matt Backlund went the distance on the mound with one walk and six strikeouts.
Nicholas Calabrese had the lone hit with a single in the fifth inning.

Cameron Kitt was the hard-luck loser despite not allowing any earned runs.

In the second game, the Bearcats started strong by scoring three runs in the top half of the third inning.


Donovan Hunt smacked an RBI single to score Matthew Ballone to begin the scoring. Calabrese followed with an RBI single to plate Jasdeep Buttar, while Hunt also scored on the same play thanks to a fielding error for the early 3-0 lead

The Crusaders stormed back with four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to earn the 7-3 non-conference win.
