Five-Run Sixth Carries Giants to Win at Wilkes

Kingston, Pa. – Keystone College scored five runs in the sixth inning of Wednesday's non-conference baseball game at Wilkes University to pull away with an 8-3 victory at Artillery Park.  Robbie Nardelli (Eynon, PA/Valley View) drove in four runs while Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) extended his hitting streak to 15 games dating back to last season to help the Giants improve to 11-3 this spring heading into conference play.
 
Wilkes (12-8) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly, but Keystone went ahead 3-1 with three runs in the top of the fourth inning.  Billy Nelson (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game before Nardelli brought home a pair with a two-run single to left field. 
 
The Colonels knotted the game with a pair of runs in the home fifth, getting a solo home run followed by an RBI base hit, but the Giants scored five runs on five hits and two errors by Wilkes in their next at-bats to take control of the game.
 
Nardelli delivered his second two-run single of the game to put Keystone back in front before coming home on an infield single by Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian)Tony Hunter II (Atlanta, GA/South Effingham) scored the Giants' seventh run on a wild pitch before Lanfranco touched home on an error by the Colonels on a ball hit by Brandon Eady (Bowie, MD/DeMatha Catholic)
 
Jesse Arnold (Stuart, FL/Port Saint Lucie) improved to 4-0 on the mound this season, picking up the win after allowing three runs on five hits while striking out seven batters in six innings of work.  Danny O'Neill (Lake Hiawatha, NJ/St. Mary's Rutherford) allowed two hits and fanned one batter in a scoreless seventh, Jeffrey Ledesma (Yonkers, NY/Norman Thomas) picked up two K's in a perfect eighth, and Junior Bautista (Haina, Domincan Republic/Christiana) closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning including one punch-out.
 
Nardelli, Hunter II, and Nate Ross (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva) had two hits apiece with Nardelli's game-high four RBIs powering Keystone's offense.  Reyes picked up base hit in the ninth inning to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.  The senior has hit safely in all 14 games this spring and had a hit in the final game of 2015.
 
Wilkes used seven pitchers on the day with Jordan Forrest suffering the loss after allowing five runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of work for the Colonels, who were paced by Joe Champi's two hits in the loss.
 
The Giants held a 10-7 advantage in hits for the game and took advantage of four errors by the hosts on the day.
 
Keystone is scheduled to open Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a three-game series against Gwynedd Mercy University.  The Giants travel to Gwynedd Mercy for a single game starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday before hosting the Griffins in doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
