Senior Coty Franklin tossed his first complete-game shutout for the Hope College baseball team in an 8-0 win against Calvin on Monday at Boeve Stadium.

Snow then halted the Flying Dutchmen's bid to sweep the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader. The nine-inning series finale has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Franklin (2-1) scattered five hits and two walks over seven innings.

The righthander from Vermontville, Michigan (Maple Valley HS) struck out one during his 105-pitch complete game.

Franklin silenced the Knights after they scored 27 runs during a sweep in Grand Rapids on Friday.

Hope supported Franklin with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Leftfielder Ryan Konkle of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS) started the rally with a two-run single to plate shortstop Brady VanderWeele of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Parchment HS) and centerfielder Nicholas Holt of Muskegon, Michigan (Catholic Central HS).

Konkle, who leads Hope with 18 RBI, later came home in the first on the first of two run-scoring sacrifice flies from third baseman Nicholas Lepore of Clinton Township, Michigan (Warren De LaSalle HS).

Lepore brought home first baseman Landon Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) with a fifth-inning fly out. VanderWeele upped Hope's lead to 5-0 after the fifth with a single that knocked in pinch-runner Ben De Ritter of Jenison, Michigan (Jenison HS).

Rightfielder JP Batts of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS) capped Hope's scoring with a three-run double in the sixth to bring home designated hitter Danny Carrasco of Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian HS), Brower and pinchrunner Spencer Wills of Linden, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic HS).

Hope improved to 6-10 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA.
