Hope Baseball Takes Two From Olivet For Series Sweep

The Hope College baseball team posted its first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association sweep of the season with 14-1 and 11-1 wins against Olivet on Saturday at Boeve Stadium.

The Flying Dutchmen (14-11 overall) moved into fourth place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings after taking four games from the Comets and upping their league record to 10-6.

Kalamazoo and Trine are tied for second with 9-5 league records but play a doubleheader against each other on Sunday.

Leftfielder Ryan Konkle of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS) went 6-for-8 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored during Saturday's doubleheader that was part of Hometown Week presented by Lorence & Vander Zwart. He is hitting .477 on the season.

Konkle's homer was his team-leading third of the season.

Designated hitter Luke Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) collected five hits, four RBI and three runs scored over two games.

First baseman Landon Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) totaled three hits, three runs scored and three RBI.

Hope outhit Olivet 32-11 over the doubleheader. The Flying Dutchmen had six extra-base hits, including triples for shortstop Brady VanderWeele of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Parchment HS) and second baseman Jordon Fairchild of Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge HS).

Hope returns to action on Tuesday, April 19 with a nonleague doubleheader against Aquinas at Kimble Field in Wyoming.
