Aggie Baseball Suffers Two MAC Freedom Losses Versus Misericordia

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team lost a pair of games to Misericordia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom doubleheader on Saturday.

The Cougars won the first game, 24-2 before taking the nightcap, 4-0. They improved to 19-8 overall and 10-3 in the conference. The Aggies have an 11-10 record with a 3-8 MAC Freedom mark.

In the opener, Misericordia scored five runs in the first, two in the third, two in the fourth, five in the fifth and 10 in the seventh. DelVal tallied one run in the first and one in the sixth. Junior second baseman Ben Lippincott came home on an error in the opening frame and freshman catcher Ryan Schuetrumpf smacked a RBI double down the left field line in the sixth.

Center fielder Jeremy DeCotiis was three-for-three for Misericordia with two RBI and three runs scored. Second baseman Kyle Lindsay had a double and two RBI. Third baseman Brian Eshleman hit a home run and drove in four. Left fielder D.J. Navoczynski and first baseman Miles Westrich had three RBI apiece.

Cory Vogeli improved to 5-0 with the victory. He went five innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits and struck out six. Senior Jake Richard took the loss (2-3).

The Cougars opened up the scoring in game two with a run in the second. Westrich's sacrifice bunt brought in right fielder Mike Comerford. Misericordia added three runs in the third. Navoczynski hit a run-scoring single to left center and DeCotiis had a two-RBI single through the right side.

Designated hitter Kenny Jarema was two-for-two with a double and a run scored. Comerford had three hits (four at-bats) and scored twice. Catcher Conor Smith registered a double.

Senior Corey White and sophomores Kevin Crill and Steve Smith produced hits for DelVal.

Zach Mason hurled a complete-game shutout for the victory (3-0). He surrendered just three hits while fanning seven. Junior Trevor Dalton tossed four innings in taking the loss (2-2).

The Aggies visit Eastern University for a conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 17 (1:00 p.m.).
