Ryan Konkle's three-run double and Luke Brower's third home run of the season helped the Hope College baseball team split a nonleague doubleheader at Aquinas on Tuesday.

The Flying Dutchmen (15-12 overall) won the second game 7-3 after dropping the opener 5-4.

In Game 2, Hope jumped to a 5-0 lead with two runs in the first inning and three in the second.

Game 2 winning pitcher Ty Van Wieren of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS) scattered three hits and one run over four innings. Van Wieren (1-2) struck out two and walked three.

Michael Thomas earned his first save with five hits and two unearned runs over three innings. He struck out five.

Brower started the first-inning rally with a RBI single. The designated hitter from Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) added a solo homer in the seventh.

Konkle, Hope's top hitter and RBI producer, cleared the bases in the second with his 14th double of the season. The leftfielder from Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS) leads the Flying Dutchmen with 40 RBI.

Konkle, who's hitting .495 on the season, also collected three RBI during Game 1 with a two-run single and his fourth home run of the season.

Konkle's 40 RBI are tied for the fifth-most in school history with Mike VanBeek (2002) and Jim Klunder (1996). The school record of 49 belongs to Kyle Blackport (2002).

Konkle's 14 doubles are tied for the second-most in Hope single-season history with Matt Sattler (2006). The school record of 16 belongs to Mark Kuiper (1993).

Hope returns to action this weekend with a MIAA series against Trine. The Flying Dutchmen host the opening doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. at Boeve Stadium.
