Yano Collects 200th Career Hit As Baseball Splits With Fisher

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 24, 2016) – Senior Jayson Yano of the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team became the second player in program history to reach 200 career hits as the team split a doubleheader Sunday.

With the split, the Ducks moved to 21-13 while Fisher moved to 23-8. Yano joined Adam Sandt in the 200 hit club, as Sandt recorded 208 hits in his career.

GAME 1 (Fisher 6, Stevens 2)

The Cardinals struck for the first two runs of the game, scoring in the first on an RBI single by Mike Roman and an RBI double in the fourth from Vic Konstatinovsky. The Ducks even things up in the sixth, with a two-out rally.

After juniors Nolan Bennett and Michael Mule' reached base via an error and single, freshman Carlos Leon smashed a triple to center field, scoring both Bennett and Mule'. Fisher threatened in the bottom of the inning, but reliever Bret Viola escaped a two out, two on jam with a strikeout.

The hosts tacked on three in the bottom seventh, the big blow a two-run double with one out. Fisher looked to tack on more runs, but senior Danny McIntyre induced an inning 6-4-3 double play to end the rally. The Cardinals scored yet another unearned run in the eighth, taking advantage of a fielding error and an RBI double.

Leon went 2-for-4 in the setback, while senior Robert Robbins went five and two third innings, surrendering six hits while striking out five.

Malcolm Kelsey and Konstantinovsky each had two hits for Fisher, while Joe Simmons had a pair of RBI's.

GAME 2 (Stevens 5, Fisher 0)

The Ducks managed to add a run in the first time up in game two. Yano led off with a walk and moved to third on a bunt and wild pitch. Bennett stepped up and delivered a sacrifice fly for the game's first run. With one out in the second, Mule' and classmate P.J. Wiegartner singled. Leon would reach on a fielder's choice, and an errant throw scored Mule.

After giving up a one out single to Simmons in the second, junior Zeph Walters retired 13 straight before a two-out single in the sixth. Fisher put a runner on second with one down in the seventh, but Walters fanned Simmons and got a fly out to escape the inning.

Stevens added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth, as Mule' collected an RBI single while Wiegarnter and Garrett Wells hit sac flies Fisher had the leadoff man on in the in ninth, but Walters retired the next three, including the final two on strikeouts.

Walters went 2-for-4 with a run at plate, while throwing a complete game shutout, striking out six with no walks. Junior Harrison Kaye went 3-for-4 at the dish, while Mule' and Yano also collected a pair of hits.
