Rose-Hulman Rallies for 14-9 Win at Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology pounded out a season-high 22 hits and scored 11 runs in the middle three innings to defeat Franklin College 14-9 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball action on Thursday afternoon.

Senior Hazen Hamather had a career day with a 5-6 performance that included a home run, a bases loaded triple, seven RBIs and three runs scored.  Hamather's five hits and seven RBIs in a game both ranks second in school history.

Four more Rose-Hulman players contributed three hits each.  Senior Caleb Kissel had a double, two singles and scored three times.  Junior Drew Schnitz finished 3-5 with one run and one RBI.  Freshman David Burnside pitched in with three singles and three runs scored.  Senior Zach Hull also added three singles with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Junior Zach Trusk also had a multiple-hit game with two singles and one run scored.  The Fightin' Engineers trailed 8-1 early, but rallied with four runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and five in the sixth to earn the victory.

The Rose-Hulman bullpen played a key role in the victory.  Jonathan Banks pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to pick up the win, and was joined by Chuck AlexaGunnar HutchisonIan Grant andDaniel Sutherland in shutting out the host Grizzlies for the final five innings.

Rose-Hulman (24-9) holds a two-game lead in the HCAC standings entering this weekend's play.  The Fightin' Engineers would secure hosting rights for next week's HCAC Tournament by winning two-of-three games on Friday and Saturday.  The series includes a 6 pm doubleheader on Friday along with a single Senior Day game at noon on Saturday.
