Tigers Win Fifth in a Row

LOS ANGELES — Devon DeRaad had a big day at the plate, Jamie Cooper homered and the Occidental baseball team's pitching was excellent in a 7-1 win over Bates at Anderson Field on Monday.

DeRaad, a First Team All-American last season, doubled in Graham Pimm to start a three-run bottom of the first inning. The Tigers' then blew the game open in the sixth with DeRaad singling in Pimm, followed by Cooper's two-run shot over the center field wall. 

Cade Denyer got the start for Oxy, giving up one earned run in thee innings pitched, with five strikeouts.

Oxy's bullpen help strong for the remainder of the game. Josh Cohen got the win with three strikeouts in two hit-less innings, and Matthew GeigerDean AbramsonWill Martel and Michael Netzel all made appearances.

The Tigers' staff only allowed three hits.

Bates' only run came on a solo homer by Brendon Canavan in the second innings. 

Pimm finished the day 1 for 5 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored, Mizuki Shumsky went 1 for 3 with a run scored and Jack Brancheau and Netzel each went 1 for 4 for the Tigers.

Season Impact: Oxy wins its fifth game in a row, moving to 5-3 overall.

Bates falls to 0-2.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Friday, hosting Cal Lutheran for the first of a three-game series at Anderson Field at 2:30 p.m. The teams will play a doubleheader in Thousand Oaks on Saturday.
