Brown Homers, Drives in Three as #9 R-MC Downs MU 13-6

ARLINGTON, Va. - Senior Stuart Brown (Midlothian, Va./Trinity) homered and had three RBI as the ninth-ranked R-MC baseball team outscored Marymount 13-6 Thursday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (7-2) put up crooked numbers in five different innings. In the top of the first, freshman Ryan Duphorn (Erial, N.J./Paul VI) walked to start the game and moved to third on a double by sophomore Jeff Butler (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch). Duphorn scored on a wild pitch and Butler scored on an error to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage.

In the third, junior Joseph Tuzzolo (Newport News, Va./Menchville) had an RBI single, senior Blake Saathoff (Catonsville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had a run-scoring groundout and Tuzzolo scored on a passed ball as R-MC took a 5-0 lead.

One inning later, Brown belted a two-run homer and Duphorn delivered an RBI single as the lead grew to 8-0.

The Saints (3-4) put up one in the fifth and two in the sixth to make it an 8-3 game. In the top of the seventh, Butler was hit by a pitch to start the inning and scored on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 9-3. Junior Cole Migliorini (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brown as the Yellow Jackets led 10-3.

After MU plated two in the bottom of the seventh, R-MC added to its lead in the eighth. Freshman Zach Evans (Fort Mill, S.C./Seneca) had a one-out double and scored in a wild pitch. Duphorn and junior Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) both scored on an error to make it a 13-5 contest. The Saints put up one in the bottom of the ninth to make the final 13-6.

Tuzzolo went 3 for 6 with two RBI, while Spiers was 1 for 3 with two walks and three runs. Brown, Duphorn and Butler all scored twice.

Freshman Michael Zubovich (Chantilly, Va./Freedom) (1-0) earned his first collegiate victory, going 5.0 innings with five hits, one run, two walks and four strikeouts.

Randolph-Macon will host Rowan in a three-game set this weekend. The reams will play a single game on Saturday at 2 p.m. and a doubleheader on Sunday at 12 noon.
