Owings Mills, Md. – The University of Scranton used an eight-run third inning on Saturday afternoon to pull away with a 9-5 victory over Keystone College, spoiling the Giants' season opener at Stevenson University in the Baltimore Invitational.  The Royals improve to 3-1 on the season while Keystone (0-1) will look for its first win of the season on Sunday at Johns Hopkins University.

Keystone took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning of Saturday's contest with a pair of unearned runs.  Austin Chaszar (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) scored on a Scranton error before Ryan Callahan (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) scored on an RBI single from Tony Hunter II (Savannah, Ga./South Effingham).

The Royals answered in a big way in their next at-bats, scoring eight runs on seven hits, two hit batsmen, and one error.  Kevin Haag and Dan Hansen each had two run singles for Scranton in the inning to help the Royals claim an 8-2 advantage.

The Giants cut their deficit to 8-4 with a pair of runs in the home sixth as Anthony Ferrezza (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) hit an RBI single before coming home on a base hit to center from Bray Curreri (Eldred, N.Y./Eldred Central).

The following inning, Brendan Long (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) scored on an RBI groundout by Ferrezza to make it an 8-5 ballgame, but Scranton capped the scoring on an RBI double by Tommy Trotter in the top of the eighth inning.

Justin Howell collected three hits while Trotter and Anthony Simone had a pair of hits each for Scranton who held an 11-10 edge in hits for the game.

Sean McNamara picked up the win on the mound after allowing four runs on nine hits in six innings of work.  Kyle Bravin yielded one run on one hit over the final three frames to earn the save.

Ferrezza went 3-4 with a pair of RBI to lead Keystone at the plate while Chaszar added two hits and Callahan scored two runs.

Billy Nelson (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) took the loss on the hill after being charged with seven earned runs on eight hits while striking out three batters in three innings of work.  Miguel Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe) allowed just one run while fanning four batters in five innings of relief work before JP Ramirez (Bronx, N.Y./Xavier) and Pat Meagher (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) combined for the final three outs for the Giants with Meagher striking out the only batter he faced.

Keystone will be right back in action on Sunday afternoon with a non-conference tilt at Johns Hopkins.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in Baltimore.
