Randolph-Macon Scores Two ODAC Baseball Wins at Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Randolph-Macon College's Rick Spiers and Cole Migliorini each hit a pair of home runs in one contest of Guilford College's two-game Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) set.

The Yellow Jackets claimed game one, 15-4, in a Saturday contest that was suspended in the bottom of the ninth inning due to thunderstorms and completed Sunday. The Yellow Jackets also took Sunday's regularly-scheduled contest, 11-4. Randolph-Macon is ranked 10th in the latest D3baseball.com Top 25 Poll.

Spiers's two home runs came on his first two at-bats of Saturday's contest as he accounted for five of the Yellow Jackets' (13-4, 4-0 ODAC) first eight runs. Spiers sparked the rally with a three-run home run to center field in the top of the first inning.

The Quakers (13-8, 1-3 ODAC) answered the eight-run rally with a three-run rally of their own in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a Michael Pinkston two-out single that drove in two runs. Josh Shepherd added an RBI double to left field to cap the rally. Andrew Brann's one-out single in the third inning also scored a run.

Eric Yost (2-4) took the loss in the contest that began Saturday in one and one-third inning effort. Logan Jones threw five and one-third innings of relief and struck out six. He had three frames in which he faced the minimum amount of batters, sitting down the Yellow Jackets consecutively in two innings.

Cody Thompson (4-0) claimed the win in the opener. He struck out one, while giving up three earned runs on six hits.

Migliorini hit the first home run of Sunday's regularly-scheduled contest with a shot to right field to put the Yellow Jackets on the board in the top of the first inning. The home run sparked a four-run rally over the first three innings for the Yellow Jackets.

A Logan Washle groundout put Guilford on the board in the fourth inning. Brann scored on the play, and when the throw home went wide to the backstop, another run crossed to cut the Quakers' deficit in half. 

Migliorini capped a three-run Yellow Jackets' sixth inning with his second home run to right field.

Guilford's Shepherd finished the series with five total hits, including a four-for-five effort in the second contest. Mitchell Stumpo tallied two hits in the second contest and struck out one in two innings of relief. Washle finished game two with two RBI and connected on two hits over the series.

John Todd (4-1) took the second-game loss for the Quakers in a six-inning effort where he struck out six and walked four.

Colin Selby (3-0) was Sunday's winner. He fanned five in five innings of work, walked two and surrendered two runs on five hits.

The Quakers continue their homestand Monday (3/20) versus nationally-ranked Tufts University for a 3 p.m. contest.
