WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University celebrated its position atop the national baseball rankings with an 8-4 non-league victory over Dickinson Tuesday afternoon.

The No. 1/6 Hornets (15-1), who ascended to the top of the D3baseball.com/NCBWA rankings Tuesday morning, scored five runs in the first and did not look back versus Dickinson (9-8).

SU sent all nine men to the plate in the first inning versus DC starter Ethan Collins (1-1), scoring the five runs on five hits and one walk. Nate Loman had an RBI single with Donnie Forgacs driving in two on a single to right.

Coach Kevin Anderson's club scored two more runs in the fourth, with Tristan Baker driving in Forgacs on a single to center and Abel Arocho bringing home Robert Marcelle on a sacrifice fly to center.

Dickinson scored two runs on three hits in the sixth with Shenandoah answering back with a single run on three hits in the bottom of the frame. Designated hitter Jake Loew had that RBI on a single to center.

The Red Devils plated another two runs in the seventh, causing Anderson to call on senior Tyler Hott to snuff out a two-on, no-out rally. After allowing one of the inherited runners to score on a sacrifice fly, Hott got out of the inning by inducing a pop fly to first.

The senior picked up his fourth save of the season by getting an inning-ending double play in the eighth and polishing off Dickinson with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Klinchock (2-0) got the win after allowing the four runs on 10 hits in 6.0 innings. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

Collins gave up seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and three walks against one strikeout to be saddled with the loss.

The Hornets banged out 13 hits in the win with Baker, Arocho, Forgacs, Marcelle, Dan Cameron and Nate Loman all getting two each.

Shenandoah returns to ODAC play tomorrow as it travels to arch-rival Bridgewater for a 4 p.m. start.
