ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Strong pitching by Alex Marrs propelled the Wesley College baseball team over the St. Mary's Seahawks, 8-3 in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest on Wednesday.

Marrs sat down 14 Seahawks in eight innings to set a new career high. Marrs only walked one batter while giving up three runs and nine hits to earn his CAC-leading fifth win of the season.

Wesley didn't waste any time scoring their first run of the game. In the top of the first inning, Trey Mears drew a leadoff walk and proceeded to steal second and third base before Chris Seibert plated him on a RBI groundout.

Wesley then scored three runs in the fourth. William Foster came around to score on a wild pitch. With the bases loaded, Deshawn Aiken singled to left field to allow Aaron Briggs to score from third base. A batter later, Mears hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Michael Piccirillo.

Wesley added two more runs in the fifth to stretch their lead to six runs over St. Mary's. Mike Calvarese hit an RBI single to left field to score Chris Seibert. Later in the inning, Piccirillo singled to center to plate Briggs from second.

Wesley then registered two runs eighth behind another sacrifice fly by Mears and a RBI single by Calvarese.

St. Mary's finally got to Marrs with three runs scored in the eighth but Cody Simet stifled the St. Mary's comeback attempt in the ninth to preserve the confernece victory for the Wolverines.

Calvarese went 3-for-5 with two RBIs while Seibert went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI. Mears knocked in two runs and stole two bases in the win.

The Wolverines (11-6, 3-4 CAC) will wrap up their non-conference tilt with the Washington Shoremen with a short trip to Chestertown, Md. tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
