No. 15 UT Dallas Completes Sweep of Wildcats With 5-2 Win

RICHARDSON, TX (04.14.17) - The No. 15 UT Dallas baseball team has now punched a ticket for the 2017 American Southwest Conference Tournament after completing a home sweep of Louisiana College Friday afternoon with a 5-2 win over the Wildcats.

The Comets (25-8, 14-4 ASC) currently sit in second place in the ASC standings with six games left in the regular season and will next play its final non-conference game of the year, 6 p.m. Monday at Southwestern before. UTD returns to ASC play next weekend for a three-game series at Mary Hardin-Baylor before hosting Howard Payne, April 28-29.

UTD starter Cole Hanson did not factor in the decision Friday, but tossed 6.0 solid innings, giving up two runs on just four hits with six strikeouts. Hanson left the game tied 2-2 before his Comets would plate three runs in the bottom of the 7th to earn the victory.

The Comets scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st to grab a quick 2-0 lead. Josh Covey would open UTD's half of the frame with a walk, take second on a wild pitch and then come home on a Barry Casey double to right. Casey later scored in the inning on a two-out single up the middle by Luke Richter.

LC (18-15, 9-12 ASC) would score two runs in the 5th on back-to-back RBI hits by Walt Aldridge and Seth Stevens, but would leave the go-ahead run at first base.

In the 7th, the Comets would load the bases with one out with three singles before Patch Healy brought home the first run of the frame on a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Casey. UTD would plate a second run on the play as Mitch Barati would come home on the first of two Wildcats throwing errors. The Comets added a final insurance run later in the inning on an RBI single by Michael Morton, scoring Richter. Richter moved to third base after Healy's sac fly and the second LC throwing error.

Tyler Keegan (1-0) picked up his first win of the season as he tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Hanson. Keegan gave up just one hit with one strikeout as he matched his longest outing of the season. Tristin DerMargosian collected his second save of the season with a scoreless 9th, allowing one hit with one strikeout as well.

The Comets ended the game out-slugging LC, 16-6, with five players recording multi-hit games. Edmundo Ojeda was 3-for-3 from the 9-hole while Richter was 3-for-4 and Casey and Connor Sctuggs each finished 3-for-5. Morton was 2-for-4. UTD stranded 11 runners on base in the game, leaving the bases loaded twice, and had two runners thrown out at home early in the contest.
