Saints Defeat Thiel, 8-2, to Win PAC Series

(GREENVILLE, Pa.) – The Thomas More College baseball team scored six runs in the top of the first inning today (Sunday, April 23, 2017) and never looked back as it defeated Thiel College, 8-2, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Tomcat Park in Greenville, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 22-7 overall and 11-4 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 18-13 overall and 10-7 in the PAC.

The Saints scored the six runs in the first and then added a run in the fourth and one in the eighth before Thiel plated two runs in the ninth as Thomas More won the game 8-2.  Thomas More took two-of-three games from Thiel to win the series and have six PAC series this season.

Senior center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was three-for-five with a double, two runs scored and two runs batted-in and sophomore first baseman Sean Lawrence (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) was three-for-five with two doubles, a run scored and a RBI.  Sophomore designated hitter Tanner Wolfe (Cincinnati, Ohio/New Richmond) was two-for-four with a home run, a run scored and two RBI and sophomore catcher Sam Hauer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-four with a run scored and a RBI.

On the mound, junior pitcher Brandon Eliadis (Lawrenceburg, Ky./Anderson County) pitched four and a third shutout innings and gave up six hits and struck out one.  Senior pitcher Josh Cain (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) earned the win as he pitched two and two-third shutout innings of relief and gave up one hit, while striking out three.

Thomas More returns to action on Tuesday (April 25) when it hosts Heidelberg University at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
