BALTIMORE, Md. - Freshman Ryan Duphorn (Erial, N.J./Paul VI) had three hits and senior Jay Patti (Sparks, Md./Hereford) drove in a pair as the 14th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team dropped a 9-3 decision Monday at seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins.
After three scoreless innings, the Yellow Jackets (25-13) started the scoring in the fourth. Junior Cole Migliorini (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) had a leadoff single and moved to second on a bunt single by junior Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca). Both runners moved up 90 feet on a sacrifice bunt by senior Blake Saathoff (Catonsville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and both came home on a ground rule double by Patti. Senior Stuart Brown (Midlothian, Va./Trinity) doubled to drive in Patti, giving R-MC a 3-0 lead.
The Blue Jays (33-6) answered with three in the bottom of the fourth and put up three more in the fifth to make it 6-3. JHU added two in the seventh and one in the eighth to make the final 9-3.
Patti and Migliorini both finished with two hits and a run.
Randolph-Macon will be the No. 3 seed in this week's ODAC Tournament. The Yellow Jackets will meet fourth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, May 5 at 6 p.m. at City Stadium in Lynchburg, Va.
