LYNCHBURG, Va. – Top-seeded Shenandoah University opened the ODAC Baseball Tournament Friday with a 4-2 victory over No. 6 Roanoke at Lynchburg City Stadium.

After Roanoke (25-16) took a 2-1 lead with a single run in the fifth, Shenandoah (35-6) answered with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the sixth to take a lead it would not relinquish.

Jake Loew provided the big blow in the frame, tripling off the wall in right center to score Abel Arocho and Nick Goode from second and first, respectively.

Arocho singled to right with one out before Goode followed with a walk.

The offense was enough for ODAC Pitcher of the Year Colin Morse (9-0), who struck out eight in 7.0 innings of work. He allowed two runs on seven hits.

Matt Burns worked a perfect eighth before Tyler Hott got the final three outs to earn his eighth save of the season.

In the eighth, the Hornets added an insurance run without the benefit of a hit as Goode came home on an error at third base. Roanoke committed two errors in the frame, the first that allowed Goode to reach and the second a two-base error that brought Goode home.

John Ruhlman (3-6) took the loss for the Maroons. He went the distance, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and five walks while striking out two.

Shenandoah was held to five hits in the contest with Loew, a first team All-ODAC pick, finishing 2-for-3.

SU plays the loser of the No. 3 Randolph-Macon versus No. 4 Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday at 2:30.
