Keystone Secures Top Seed in CSAC Playoffs With Split in Regular Season Finale

La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College and Immaculata University each won a game in Saturday's Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday to close out the regular season.  The Giants (28-12, 17-4) clinched the top seed with a 6-2 win in Saturday's first game before the Mighty Macs (23-10, 16-5 CSAC) rallied for a 9-5 victory in a rain-shortened nightcap.
 
Keystone and Immaculata, who will be the #2 seed in this spring's CSAC playoffs, will both host first round playoff games on Wednesday afternoon with opponents to be determined as Gwynedd Mercy University and Neumann University play doubleheaders on Sunday to determine the #3 and #4 seeds.

The conference format is a double-elimination tournament with games at Keystone and Immaculata on Wednesday before the remaining games are played at PNC Field in Moosic next Friday and Saturday.
 
Game 1
 
Keystone used a six-run sixth inning in Saturday's opener to overcome an early, one-run deficit to clinch the top seed in the CSAC playoffs with a 6-2 victory. 
 
Immaculata took a 1-0 with an unearned run in the top of the second inning of Saturday's opener on an RBI single through the right side from Dom Ficca.
 
The Mighty Macs held the one-run edge until the bottom of the sixth inning when Keystone scored six runs on five hits to take a 6-1 lead. 
 
Tony Hunter II (Savannah, Ga./South Effingham) delivered a two-run double down the left field line to put the Giants ahead before Sebastian De La Cruz (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) and Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) connected on two-run singles to give the hosts a five-run cushion.
 
Immaculata got another unearned run in the top of the seventh inning, but were unable to mount a comeback as Keystone secured the victory to clinch the top seed in the postseason tournament.
 
Keystone starter Miguel Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe) improved to 7-1 on the season, picking up the win with a complete game effort in which he yielded a pair of unearned runs on seven hits while striking out five batters.
 
Panzarella went 3-4 with a pair of RBI while Hunter and De La Cruz drove in two runs apiece for the Giants, who held an 8-7 edge in hits in the opening game victory.
 
Immaculata starter Ryan Blough took the loss after surrendering four runs on five hits in 5.1 innings.  Greg Grandelli was charged with two runs on two hits before giving way to Zach Smiley, who recorded the final two outs for the Mighty Macs.
 
Ficca and Howie Kalaments had two hits apiece for the visitors in the opening game loss.
 
Game 2

Immaculata rallied for  a 9-5 win in a rain-shortened, six-inning nightcap, scoring eight unanswered runs to overcome a four-run deficit to salvage the split.
 
Keystone took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of Saturday's nightcap when Brendan Long (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) scored on an Immaculata error on a ball put into play by Panzarella.
 
The Mighty Macs leveled the contest in the top of the second inning on an RBI single from Dom Ficca, but the Giants went back in front in the home half of the frame, 3-1, on an RBI base hits from Long and Brady Barr (Bowie, Md./Bowie).
 
Long pushed Keystone's lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when he launched his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot, over the left field fence to give the hosts a four-run cushion.
 
Immaculata scored three runs on three hits to pull to within a run.  Howie Kalamets and Matt Simon hit RBI singles before a Tyler Kmiec sacrifice fly cut the Mighty Macs' deficit to 5-4. 
 
The Mighty Macs then plated five runs on four hits and two errors in the visitor's sixth to take a 9-5 advantage and held off the Giants the in the home half of the frame before the game was called due to excessive rain. 
 
Immaculata starter Eddie Decker took a no-decision after allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out three batters over the first four innings.  Billy Manzo picked up the win in relief after tossing two scoreless innings with a pair of K's.
 
Com Ficca had three hits while Kalamets and Jason McCormick had two hits apiece to led the Mighty Macs, who outhit the Giants by an 11-8 margin.

Keystone starter Yeison Andujar (San Juan, P.R./Programa Educativo Alcance) yielded four runs on seven hits while striking out five batters in 4.1 innings in a no-decision. Tyler Widitz (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) gave up five runs, only two of which were earned, on three hits while fanning one batter in 1.1 innings before being relieved by Joe DeAngelis (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn), who picked up the final out with one hit against. 
 
Long went 3-4 with three RBI while Barr and Anthony Ferrezza (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) had two hits apiece in the game two setback.

Keystone's first round CSAC playoff game against either Gwynedd Mercy or Neumann will start at 3:00 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Field on Wednesday.
