Golden Eagles Slug Their Way Past Olivet, 12-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University baseball team slugged their way to a 12-2 win over Olivet Sunday afternoon improving to 4-0 on the season.

THE BASICS

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Golden Eagles broke the game open in the fifth scoring six runs on five hits. Sievert hit a sac fly to left field scoring Stevens for the first run, and Clay Kelly followed with a triple scoring Evan Trentman. Kelly then came home on a Joe Hatcher single, and Brownlee capped off the inning with a three-run homer to right field.
  • Spalding added four more runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Sievert, Kelly, Hatcher and Harper pushing the margin to 12 runs.

STAT LEADERS
  • Jack Parisi (1-0) earned his first collegiate win. The right-hander held the Comets to two earned runs, on five hits, while striking out seven batters and walking one in 7.0 innings pitched.
  • Clay Kelly went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate driving in one run and scoring two.

FOR THE FOES
  • Aaron Gillespie (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing eight runs, five earned, on 10 hits, while striking out five batters and walking one.
  • Jake Robinson led Olivet at the plate going 1-for-3 with one RBI.
