Lexington, S.C. - Four pitchers allowed just a single earned run and senior Brendan Pierce (Hingham, Mass.) scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning off a double-steal attempt, as the Trinity College Bantams edged the Roger Williams University Hawks, 3-2, in baseball action under the lights at Lexington County Stadium this evening.  Trinity sophomore Andrew DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.) pitched 2.1 innings of no-hit ball to capture his first collegiate victory.  The Bantams improve to 2-2 with their second consecutive win, and the Hawks fall to 2-8.  Trinity will face Case Western Reserve tomorrow  at 7p.m., looking to avenge a 16-8 setback against the Spartans on Sunday.

Both teams scored in the second inning with Trinity tying the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by sophomore Mack Lauder ().  The score remained the same until the sixth frame when the Hawks went ahead, 2-1, thanks to two Trinity errors and a wild pitch.  Deroche entered the game with runners on second and third, replacing classmate Alex Herbst (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) who went four full innings of relief and allowed just a single unearned run, and recorded the third out on a strikeout.

With two outs in the eighth stanza, Trinity junior 1B Johnny Stamatis (Ridgefield, Conn.) walked and Pierce singled to left.  Senior Cooper Mooney logged his second hit of the game with a to right field to score Stamatis.  The Bantam base runners attempted a double steal and Mooney was thrown out but stalled the Hawk defense long enough for Pierce to reach home to take the lead.  Bantam senior lefty McLane Hill (Marlborough, Conn.) retired the third, fourth, and fifth batters in the Roger Williams lineup to collect his first save of the spring.  Mooney and sophomore Matt Koperniak (Adams, Mass.) hit two hits apiece for the Trinity offense.
