Gwynedd Mercy Takes Two From Clarks Summit

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball team moved their win streak to five games on Saturday sweeping Colonial States Athletic Conference newcomer Clarks Summit University 11-2 in game one and 15-2 in the nightcap.

Gino Tripodi and Mike Di Ianni each picked up wins by throwing quality starts for the home team today. Both starters struck out six batters in five innings of work.

Game one
The Griffins set the table in game one scoring nine runs on eight hits in the first inning. A Dave Tatoian sac fly scored Nick Mulvey who led off the frame with a double to plate the inning's first run. RBI's from Tommy Nardini (double), Bobby HeckJustin ForktusJustin Curtin (two-run single) and Mulvey (two-run triple) in his second at bat of the inning paved the way for GMercyU.

Gwynedd would add a pair of runs in the fourth with a two-out triple from Heck to plate Nick Pellegrino, Forktus would then follow to plate Heck to up the lead.

The Griffins recorded 13 hits in the opener led by Heck with three, Bryan Kaelin would record his first career hit as well for the home team.

Tripodi allowed just one hit and one walk with his six K's.

Game two
GMercyU would score in every inning except the fourth, as the team totaled 15 runs on 16 hits. 

Mulvey would jump start the Griffin offense with a lead-off triple in the bottom of the first. He would then score on a wild pitch for the early lead.  Evan Miller would score thanks to a Forktus sac fly in the second.  Miller and Forktus would add RBI's in the third both reaching on fielder's choices.

Forktus would add his third RBI in the fifth plating Miller again. Curtin followed to score both Forktus and Alex Ritter. Mulvey would cap the inning scoring Curtin with a single. Sachael Sciarretta highlighted the sixth inning with a two run single to put Gwynedd ahead, 10-0.

The Griffins capitalized on Clarks Summit miscues in the seventh to plate three unearned runs.

Jeff Seigafuse triple in the eighth would plate Brandon Gray, for his first career hit. He would then score when Miller knocked him in.

The Griffins (13-11, 7-3 CSAC) wrap up their home stand on Tuesday when they host Cairn University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
