Amherst, Mass. – Junior Erik Mohl (Milton, Mass.) and sophomore Andrew Deroche (North Reading, Mass.) combined on a four-hitter to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 11-1 victory over the Amherst College Mammoths in baseball action this afternoon at Memorial Field.  Trinity, which dropped the second game, 11-1, is now 15-14 but the Bantams were eliminated from contention for the post-season due to a split in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division doubleheader between Bates and Tufts.  Trinity finished tied with Bates and Bowdoin for second place in the division at 7-5 but come up short due to the conference's tiebreaking rules.  The Bantams host Framingham State on Tuesday, May 1 at 7 p.m.

Trinity rapped out 15 hits and broke open the game with five runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead.  The first five batters reached base safely in that frame with a walk and four straight singles as Trinity went base to base and made their way through the lineup. Sophomores Mack Lauder (Chappaque, N.Y.), Matt Koperniak (Adams, Mass.) and senior tri-captain Cooper Mooney (Southbury, Conn.) all had RBI knocks in the rally, which was capped with two outs on a two-run hit by junior 1B Johnny Stamatis (Ridgefield, Conn.).  Mohl improved to 3-4 for the Bantams with six shutout innings, while Deroche threw three innings of relief and allowed just one unearned run to earn his second save of the year. 

Trinity junior Tyler Buckley (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) hit a three-run homer with two outs in the top of the ninth, leading a lineup that saw the top seven players collect RBIs.  Mooney finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Buckley, Lauder, Koperniak, and Stamatis each had two hits.  Davis Brown gave up just one earned run over four innings of work but took the loss on the hill for the Mammoths.  Ariel Kenney was the only Amherst player with multiple hits, and he scored the home team's only run after he doubled in the bottom of the ninth and crossed the plate on a throwing error. 

Senior Sam Schneider tossed seven innings of one-run ball and struck out seven batters to collect the victory in game two for Amherst.  Buckley led off the game with another homer, but that was all the offense Trinity would muster.  Amherst tied the game with a run in the bottom of the first on a Kenney double and then scored five times in the second to break open the game and chase Trinity starter Dan Marini (Nahant, Mass).
